Train To Heaven
03:11
|
|||
If I leave I may never come back
And I never wanna' leave this train
I rode to Heaven on a subway train
Heading north on the Hudson Line
I watched my soul as it rose over me
the neon lights and the dirty streets
The band in heaven plays help on the way
And the angels sing like morning doves
But I wasn't ready for the pearly gate
my final race has not been run
And if I leave I may never come back
and I never wanna' leave this train
I met this guy out on the train
Reading the Tibetan book of the dead
He told me of his past life pain
On the way to his prison bed
He's an outlaw not a criminal
Water-bearer of medicinal
He said 'My girl won't you marry me?'
I said all I want is to be set free
And if I leave I may never come back
and I never wanna leave this train
I spent three days in a hospital bed
Greeted death like a lost child
Yeah, that fever I had really went to my head
Just the devil with me on that long mile
Life on the tracks Is all I've known
See the same face on everyone
Wandering to find their home
A distant heart will set out to roam
If I leave I may never come back
And I never wanna' leave this train
No I never wanna' leave this train

Peggy O

As we rode out to Fennario
As we rode out to Fennario
Our captain fell in love with a lady like a dove
And he called her by name pretty Peggy-O
Will you marry me, pretty Peggy-O
Will you marry me, pretty Peggy-O
If you will marry me, I will set your cities free
And free all the ladies in the area-O
I would marry you, sweet William-O
I would marry you, sweet William-O
I would marry you, but your guineas are too few
And I fear my mama would be angry-O
What would your mama think, pretty Peggy-O
What would your mama think, pretty Peggy-O
What would your mama think if she heard my guineas clink
And saw me marching at the head of my soldiers-O
If ever I return, pretty Peggy-O
If ever I return, pretty Peggy-O
If ever I return, all your cities I will burn
Destroy all the people in the area-O
Come steppin' Down the stairs pretty Peggy-O
Come steppin' down the stairs pretty Peggy-O
Come steppin' down the stairs combing back your yellow hair
In a last farewell to your William-O
William he is dead pretty Peggy-O
William he is dead pretty Peggy-O
William he is dead and he died for our men
And he's buried in Ashtabula Ohio
As we rode out to Fennareo
As we rode out to Fennareo
Our captain fell in love with a lady like a dove
They call her by name Pretty Peggy-O
And they call her by name pretty Peggy-O

Pete's Basement

Please don't tell me that you love me
Like you did in old Pete's Basement
All those years ago in Schenectady
I'm wishing now that we had never met
I don't know where you're going but I won't be there
If you recall and remember you said you never really cared
About me in Pete's Basement
Standing on the corner in Schenectady
Smokin' a cig and trying to get a taxi
Going over the bridge to my sister's house
I reckon' by now she's pretty mad at me
So I'm gonna' move on in to old Pete's Basement
He said I could stay there for free
If I do some paintings of a brook trout
I reckon that you can stay over with me
I don't know where you're going but I won't be there
If you recall and remember you said you never really cared
About me in Pete's Basement
My old friend Pete, he's got one arm
He said people are better off that way
Sometimes at night we'd go down to the bar
And he'd beat my ass in pool, you should see that mother f***** play
He used to tell me 'Girl, take life a little easly'
But we pushed too hard, stayed up too late
Thought we were going where the winds blow cool and breezy
We were stupid we were young we had a bad twist of fate
I don't know where you're going but I won't be thereIf you recall and remember you said you never really cared
About me in Pete's Basement
Diggin' my grave in old Pete's Basement
With a silver spoon and a jar of cheap whiskey
Wish that you were still lying here with me
But the light is gone your eyes see right through me
I don't know where you're going but I won't be thereIf you recall and remember you said you never really cared
And then you peed on my blanket

Livin' In Cambridge

Livin' In Cambridge ain't that bad
Got the river and the trains are sad
Got your old friends on a Saturday night
Makes me feel that the world's alright
You can get born here and you can die
You can get low, you can get high
You can get married and you can leave
You can do just what you please
You can float down the river in a big old tube
Hit the Roundhouse for some food
Down at the depot everybody knows your name
Say you and your sister both look the same
I'm living in Cambridge and it ain't that bad
I got my brothers, my mom and dad
They always wanted what was best for me
Raised me right here in God's country
Think I'll head down to the county fair
Everybody takes their cows down there
its nice to move back to your hometown
To the land you once thought was sacred ground
We can go for a burn cruise down Ashgrove
Drive real slow in the snow
I've seen too many friends here come and go
Cause' this town and grow a shadow on your soul
